Baden-Württemberg State Research Prize Goes to Freiburg Plant Ecophysiologist Christiane Werner

Prof. Dr Christiane Werner is one of this year’s winners of the Baden-Württemberg State Research Prize. The Professor of Ecosystem Physiology at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg will receive the most highly endowed research prize of any federal state in recognition of her scientific achievements in basic research in the field of plant stress physiology. The prize is endowed with 100,000 euros. A selection committee chaired by the President of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities justified the decision in favour of Werner as follows: “Christiane Werner is regarded as one of the most innovative scientists in her field, whose research significantly improves our understanding of plant stress physiology and enables the development of strategies to improve the resilience of ecosystems to increasingly extreme conditions.”
