Friends of the University of Freiburg celebrate their 100th anniversary

The Friends of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. Since its foundation, it has supported students at the University of Freiburg with scholarships, project funding and prizes for outstanding achievements, among other things. Guests are warmly welcome to attend the anniversary celebrations on 10 July 2025.
On 10 July 2025, the Friends of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau Association will celebrate its 100th anniversary. In its early years, the association’s primary focus was on alleviating the hardship of scientists and their students by providing free meals in the university cafeteria, finding affordable housing and procuring heating materials. Today, support is provided primarily in the form of graduation scholarships, funding for innovative projects, and grants for study abroad and field trips. The association also awards prizes for outstanding theses.
It currently has approximately 650 members, including private individuals and many companies. The funding generated from membership fees amounts to approximately 45,000 euros annually. In addition, there are 15 foundations, including the Gesa Hartmann Stiftung, the Stiftung KStV Bavaria and the Maria Ladenburger Foundation. The foundations’ assets amount to approximately 3.8 million euros, resulting in a funding volume of approximately 100,000 euros.
Guests are warmly welcome to attend the ceremony, followed by a reception at Haus “Zur Lieben Hand,” Löwenstraße 16. Start: 7 p.m. Please register in advance.
