The central evaluation service (ZES) of the University of Freiburg supports the faculties and central institutions in the prompt and (partially) automated implementation of semester-accompanying course and module evaluations.
The data protection-compliant procedure, which is implemented with the EvaSys evaluation software from Electric Paper, enables surveys to be carried out online.
A standardised University-wide core questionnaire is used for course evaluations, which can be expanded to include additional faculty-specific questions. The study commission of the respective faculty decides on the inclusion of faculty-specific questions in the core questionnaire. Participation in the ZES programme is voluntary for the faculties.
Through standardised procedures for course and module evaluation and the prompt transmission of evaluation results to lecturers and the study commissions of the relevant faculties, the ZES offers support in identifying development potential in teaching.
The reports on the results of the centralised course evaluation can also serve as a basis for feedback discussions between lecturers and students at the end of the semester, which are aimed at both quality assurance and development.
The ZES programme is generally available to all faculties and institutions at the University of Freiburg.
The procedure and the courses to be evaluated are selected at the beginning of the semester by the faculties’ study commissions. Administrative contact persons in the faculties provide the ZES staff with all the information required for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the evaluation and act as a link between faculty and subject representatives and the ZES.
Lecturers use the services of the ZES by getting in touch with the administrative contact person in the Dean of Studies Office of their faculty as early as possible. The study commission or the Office of the Dean for Academics then decides on the evaluation of a course or module.
