Prof. Dr Christiane Werner is the winner of the Baden-Württemberg 2024 State Research Prize. The Professor of Ecosystem Physiology at the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Freiburg has been awarded the most valuable research prize in a German state in recognition of her scientific achievements in basic research in the field of plant stress physiology. The prize is endowed with 100,000 euros. A selection committee chaired by the President of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities justified the decision in favour of Werner as follows ‘Christiane Werner is considered one of the most innovative scientists in her field, whose research significantly improves our understanding of the stress physiology of plants and enables the development of strategies to improve the resilience of ecosystems to increasingly extreme conditions.’
