Geosciences deal with the burning problems of our globe: sustainable extraction of raw materials, water and energy, characterization and prevention of particulate matter and environmental toxins, prediction of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis, development of modern, resource-saving materials. The study of geosciences at the University of Freiburg emphasizes a broad foundation of basic knowledge, which allows students to enter a wide-ranging professional world. The study of geosciences in Freiburg is structured in stages and begins with the Bachelor’s degree. This is completed after six semesters with a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Geosciences. This degree qualifies students for jobs and professions that require a general and broad geological grounding and for further Master’s studies in Germany or abroad.
