Curriculum Vitae

Oliver Schilling studied Biology and Biochemistry in Germany and France. He pursued his PhD studies at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory; employing X-ray absorption spectroscopy to characterize zinc-binding proteins. Subsequently, he joint the laboratory of Prof Dr Christopher M Overall (University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada) as a post-doctoral fellow in order to use mass spectrometry based proteomics to better understand the substrates and specificities of proteolytic enzymes. In 2008, Oliver Schilling joint the University of Freiburg (Institute of Molecular Medicine and Cell Research) to start his own laboratory. From 2009 – 2014 he has been an Emmy-Noether fellow of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and from 2012 – 2017, he has been recipient of a Starting Grant of the European Research Council. Since 2018 he is a Heisenberg Professor for Translational Proteome Research at the Institute of Surgical Pathology, University of Freiburg. Research in the Schilling laboratory focuses on translational proteomics, mass spectrometry imaging, and proteolytic signaling.
