Alumni Programme

Programme Objectives

The FRIAS Alumni Programme enhances the FRIAS fellow network by encouraging former fellows to return and by supporting established national and international research collaborations and communication networks. A key focus of the programme is to promote the involvement of early-career researchers in these projects and networks.

Who Can Apply?

Anyone who has previously been a fellow at FRIAS, either as part of an individual fellowship or a research focus group, is eligible to apply.

Duration and Timeline

The programme provides funding for ‘return-to-FRIAS’ visits lasting between two and six consecutive weeks for FRIAS alumni. An outline of the planned visit to FRIAS, preferably including two potential time periods, is required. Most FRIAS activities take place between October and July. Applications should be submitted at least four months prior to the intended stay.

Application and Selection

Please note that, due to limitations in funding, accommodation, and office space, only a limited number of return visits can be supported. The Board of Directors will decide on the application within four weeks.

To apply for the Alumni Programme, the following documents must be submitted:

  • a short description of the project (title and abstract of about 1,500 characters)
  • a current CV and publications list in a single PDF (for those who have not been in Freiburg recently)
  • an estimation of accommodation and travel costs.

Support and Benefits

Travel and Accomodation

FRIAS will reimburse economy travel costs and accommodation costs for alumni visits as follows:
– max. 95 euros/day (for stays of up to two weeks)
– max. 75 euros/day (for stays of up to three weeks)
– max. 50 euros/day (for stays exceeding three weeks)

Participation

Participants in the Alumni Programme are encouraged to engage in the academic life of the FRIAS community.

Office & Infrastructure

FRIAS will make an effort to provide an office in the building. Participants have access to rooms for various needs.

Support Services

Participants will receive support from the FRIAS team in organizing events, such as workshops or book launches, that help advance collaborative research projects.

Application

Please provide an outline of your planned visit to FRIAS via email, preferably including two potential time periods. Note that most FRIAS activities take place between October and July. Applicants can expect a response within four weeks of submitting their application.
