Board of Directors
The FRIAS Board of Directors manages the scientific and organizational affairs of the institute. The three scientific directors represent different areas of responsibility (Humanities; Social and Behavioral Sciences; and Natural and Life Sciences, Medicine, and Engineering). The directors are appointed by the Rectorate.
Since October 2022, the Board of Directors has consisted of the following individuals:
Administration
The FRIAS Administration is responsible for managing the funding programmes, supervising the fellows, organizing activities at the institute, and overseeing general administration. It is headed by Managing Director Dr. Annette Doll.

Steering Committee
The Steering Committee oversees the work of the institute and the FRIAS Board of Directors.
It makes recommendations to the FRIAS Board of Directors and the Rectorate of the university on fundamental issues relating to the long-term development of FRIAS. It is made up of five external and nine internal members, including representatives of the faculties and research centers, students, and early-career researchers. The Steering Committee meets once a year.

Scientific Advisory Board
The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) advises FRIAS on scientific matters and is the central selection committee for the FRIAS funding programmes. It is made up of eleven internationally renowned academics from various disciplines who are not members of the University of Freiburg. The Scientific Advisory Board ensures that FRIAS maintains the highest academic quality standards in its research programmes and selection procedures. The members of the SAB are appointed by the Senate of the UFR for a period of three years.

Kuratorium
The Kuratorium advises the FRIAS Board of Directors and establishes contact with potential partners and sponsors. Members of the Kuratorium are individuals from politics, business, and science who have special ties to the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies and the University of Freiburg. They support FRIAS in executing its tasks and contribute to boosting its public impact.
