@DocProjects
Call for proposals to support self-organized projects by doctoral candidates
You would like to organize a conference or workshop at your institute, or perhaps bring an exciting guest lecture to Freiburg? Set up a writing or doctoral group? Develop a new form of creative academic communication? Support is now available!
With @DocProjects, the Freiburg Graduate Centre (GraCe), together with the Joint Working Committee of the Doctoral Candidate Councils (GAA), supports doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg who wish to carry out self-organized projects, initiatives or activities.
Support is provided for projects that serve the academic advancement and/or career development of doctoral candidates. It is essential that these projects benefit several doctoral candidates and that the exchange or networking between doctoral candidates is apparent. In addition to the above-mentioned formats, innovative concepts and activities can also be funded, provided they are based on the award criteria below.
Projects that only benefit individual persons are not eligible for funding. Personnel costs for your own position cannot be applied for either. Honorary fees for guests and costs for student assistants are permissible.

All accepted doctoral candidates who are either enrolled and/or employed at the University of Freiburg are eligible to apply.
Financial support up to €2500 per project. The projects must be implemented within nine months of approval.
Please explain why the project is necessary for your further development and address the following award criteria:
- Promoting the scientific development and/or career development of doctoral candidates
- Supporting the networking and exchange between doctoral candidates
- Increasing the visibility of doctoral candidates
- How the project benefits several doctoral candidates
- Completed application form signed by the applicant, also addressing the above-mentioned criteria (application form page 2)
- Project outline (max. 3 pages), including:
- Project description
- Realistic timetable
- Involved people / institutions
- Project goals and output.
- Detailed budget plan (application form page 3), the items of which must be clearly documented and where applicable accompanied by cost estimates and signed by the applicant and the person responsible for the budget from the managing institution. Please provide a realistic cost estimate, as additional costs incurred cannot be approved retrospectively.
Please note: As these are budgetary funds, the budgetary regulations and the hospitality guidelines of the University of Freiburg must be observed.
We encourage you to schedule a consultation with us before you submit your final application. During the consultation we can discuss all questions relating to the budget, scope and schedule of the project together and increase the chances of your project being successful. Consultations are available by appointment from September 22 – October 2. If you are not available during this period, please let us know so that we can organise an appointment at a different time.
