Curriculum vitae

Miriam Gassner (Mag. iur., Dr. iur., Vienna; LL.M.,) is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Freiburg, Germany,. where she currently works for the DFG project The Making of the Austrian Constitution 1920, led by Priv.-Doz. Dr. Jörg Kammerhofer, LL.M.

After having studied law in Dijon, France and Alcala de Henares, Spain, she completed her PhD in Law at the University of Vienna in 2013. In 2014 she passed successfully the civil law Notary Examination and worked from 2016 to 2021 as a Notary’s Substitute in Vienna, Austria. From 2021 to 2023 she was a senior research fellow („Universitätsassistentin, post-doc“) at the University of Vienna.

Her scholarly field of activity lies at the intersection of legal philosophy, legal theory, and legal history. She specialises in the history of ideas, exile and network studies and in theory of law. She has been working for many years on the worldwide reception of Hans Kelsen’s Pure Theory of Law and has published widely on this topic.

Currently she is working on a book project concerning the transfer of European ‚legal culture‘ to North and South America by German-speaking legal scholars 1933 to 1945.
