(Peer-)Networking and Company Visits
The program promotes networking among mentees and with other professionals in and outside academia through network meetings, informative events, company visits, and expert discussions with speakers from academia and business. Regular network meetings offer opportunities for exchange with other mentees, alumnae and other interesting guests. We present and discuss possible life and career paths on career evenings with Q&A sessions.
On our visits to various career fairs and companies, we offer our mentees the opportunity to gain a direct insight on recruiting processes and candidate’s selection process with “real personnel” and all about entry- and career opportunities. With kite-mentoring you are well connected in Freiburg, the region and in the trinational area.
We currently have more than 420 mentees and alumnae registered in the network, and we are constantly expanding.

The SciMoms Breakfast Meetup for Moms in Academia offers a welcoming space for exchange, connection, and mutual support. It brings together mothers at different career stages to share experiences, challenges, and perspectives from everyday academic life. Over breakfast, participants can engage in open conversations about balancing research, teaching, care responsibilities, and personal well-being. The focus is not on performance, but on being present and feeling understood.
The meeting encourages peer connection and a sense of community among women who often navigate similar situations. It provides an opportunity to pause, reflect, and recharge together in a supportive atmosphere. Conversations are shaped by the participants and can range from practical strategies to personal reflections. Trust, respect, and confidentiality form the basis of the exchange.
The breakfast aims to strengthen solidarity and visibility of mothers in academia. Above all, it offers a shared moment of belonging and mutual encouragement.
