Welcome to team Makro! We are polymer scientists – from polymer synthesis to polymer physical chemistry to polymer engineering and applications. Our fundamental research focuses on novel synthetic methods and advanced applications of complex, controlled, bioinspired, biobased and bioactive macromolecules.
Plastics based on renewable raw materials, energy-efficient lightweight materials, sustainable materials for flexible electronics, interactive materials for biomedical applications and the development of complex, quasi-living material systems are just some of our research topics. If you are interested to learn more, check out the research groups headed by Laura Hartmann, Stefan Naumann, Stephan Schmidt and Prasad Shastri.
If you want to learn more why Freiburg and our institute are where polymer research started, check out the history of the institute here.
Dive into the fascinating world of macromolecular chemistry, where science meets innovation and application! This field explores the synthesis, structure, and properties of large molecules – or what we call polymers, and materials made from polymers such as plastics. We live in a world where polymers and plastics are an essential part of our everyday live, our health and well-being. However, we also know that synthetic polymers possess many challenges for our environment. By understanding how polymers are made, why they have unique properties and how we apply them, we can support and work on the development of new and better and more sustainable polymers and materials.
Embark on a journey of discovery and creativity, and be part of shaping the future of materials science!

This is a request to remove assets from the inventory and an official order,
which the asset accounting department may only carry out if it is signed. The disposal request must be signed by the head of administration at the institute.
Equipment may only be disposed of if the signed application has been confirmed by Asset Accounting.
IMPORTANT! First save the order form on your computer and then fill it in. When using the browser, the calculation function may lead to errors.
