EDENenergy – Bringing Circularity to the Battery Industry

Prof. Dr. Sonia Dsoke acts as the academic mentor for this project under the EXIST Business Start-up Grant.

Every year, millions of e-bike and e-scooter batteries are discarded long before reaching their true end of life. At EDENenergy, a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, we are giving these batteries a second life — transforming them into safe, efficient, and affordable stationary energy storage systems for homes and small businesses.

To optimize the performance and longevity of second-life batteries, we rely on cutting-edge research in battery aging and diagnostics. Fast and reliable State of Health (SoH) assessment methods are crucial to ensure that reused cells operate safely and effectively throughout their second application phase.

We are glad to have Prof. Dr. Sonia Dsoke as our academic mentor. Her expertise in battery aging mechanisms and diagnostic methods provides invaluable insights for our development process and helps us address key research questions such as:

We are grateful for this collaboration and the opportunity to build on cutting-edge academic research to bring circularity into the battery industry.

Researchers and partners interested in contributing to this vision are warmly invited to get in touch with us.
