Study and get involved

Service learning combines studies and social involvement: Through practical learning in real projects, you can apply knowledge and gain valuable experience with community partners from the region. Discover the many different possibilities for linking theory and practice and making a positive contribution to society.

Interdisciplinary module: Interdisciplinary and inspiring

You have the opportunity to volunteer with community partners and exchange experiences with fellow students from other subjects. Get active and have your voluntary service recognized. You reflect on your practical experiences and receive valuable input.

Subject-based offers: Your project, your impact

You can try out and extend your specialist knowledge directly in cooperation with community partners. Whether you complete a course project, a seminar, or a final thesis, you collaborate on solutions to real societal challenges. We accompany you every step of the way.

University Network for Social Responsibility

The University of Freiburg is a member in the University Network for Social Responsibility: Collaboration in the network is beneficial for the SL programme and its further development.

Membership also provides important opportunities for exchange for the Sustainability Certificate team, entrepreneurship actors, and anyone interested in transfer. All members of the University, especially lecturors, have the opportunity to get involved in the working groups of the University Network for Social Responsibility, for example to promote quality development in the area of transfer- and practice-oriented teaching formats and implement the results at the University.

Federal ‘Engagierte Stadt’ programme

The City of Freiburg has taken part in the ‘Engagierte Stadt’ (committed city) programme since 2024, where it receives support from a nationwide network in achieving its objectives. These objectives include strengthening existing partnerships in Freiburg and building up new networks.

The Service Learning course area works closely with the programme to link the University’s offerings with Freiburg associations in the best possible way and attract new community partners.
