PostDoc

1 Postdoc position in attosecond metrology and spectroscopy at seeded free-electron lasers

A Postdoc position is available in the field of attosecond metrology and nonlinear photoionization at free-electron lasers at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg.

The attosecond group at the University of Freiburg has extensive experience in the investigation of attosecond metrology at the seeded FEL FERMI (P. Maroju et al. Nature 578, 386-391(2020); P. Maroju et al. Nature Photonics 17, 200–207 (2023); P. Maroju et al. Communications Physics 8, 207 (2025))

The Postdoc position is part of the recently funded BMBFTR project “Multidimensional Attosecond and Coherent Techniques for Seeded FLASH (MultiACT)”.

The project focuses on the development and implementation of a novel attosecond timing tool to be used in combination with an angular-resolved photoelectron detector. The setup will be installed at the seeded FEL FLASH2020+ and will be used for the investigation of attosecond electron dynamics triggered by attosecond pulses

Within the project, we also plan to continue our collaboration with the experimental groups at the seeded FEL FERMI.

The position requires a strong background in optical, atomic and molecular physics, as well as experience in designing detectors and instrumentation for the detection of charged particles.

The position is available for a total of three years, provided that the candidate’s performance is evaluated positively after the first year.

Applications should be submitted by 01.03.2026 and include a CV, a letter of motivation and a list of publications.

The applications should be addressed to:

Prof. Dr. Giuseppe Sansone
