University ombuds office
If conflicts between doctoral candidates and supervisors persist despite an initial consultation with a confidential advisor from the faculty (see above), the University of Freiburg’s central ombuds office can be consulted.
The office can help resolve conflicts arising from the supervisory relationship or work on the doctoral thesis through an ombuds process. The process is strictly confidential and consists of two levels, making it as easy as possible for supervisors and doctoral candidates to overcome their inhibitions and speak openly about problems early on. The person seeking advice may choose to discontinue the process at any time.
