Im englischen Vortrag „Biometrics: A Weapon 4 New Worlds“ wird es um zum einen um die Geschichte der biometrischen Überwachung gehen. Zum anderen wird Prof. Nitzan Lebovic von der Lehigh University aus den USA im zweiten Teil seines Vortrags biometrische Gesetzgebung in Israel beleuchten und in den Zusammenhang von globaler Verwendung der Biometrie einordnen. 

Der Vortrag ist Teil der Veranstaltungsreihe „Künstliche Intelligenz als Herausforderung und Chance“, die vom Colloquium Politikum in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Center for Security and Society, dem Lehrstuhl für Politische Philosophie, Theorie und Ideengeschichte und dem Max-Planck-Institut zur Erforschung von Kriminalität, Sicherheit und Recht veranstaltet wird. 

Die Vortragsreihe wird von PD Dr. Elisa Orrù und PD Dr. Martin Baesler organisiert.

Abstract zum Vortrag: 

The lecture focuses on the emergence of contemporary biometric systems and the growing fear of a “surveillance society” (David Lyon, 2001). The lecture will analyze the history of bio-metric surveillance, grounded in a long history of physiognomic and racial taxonomy, on the one hand, and the potentiality of “universal suspicion,” on the other. The lecture will then examine the case of biometric legislation in Israel, aimed at making biometrics – nowadays combined with AI – an expression of technological superiority and what Deleuze and Guattari called the “control society” or the “man-machine assemblage.” Such universal assemblages are used, often as experimental weap-ons, against populations in the “global south.” (Quelle: Nitzan Lebovic)
