The journal Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ) has selected the article by Marlene Walk, Lindsay Cart-Turner, Emily Peterson, and Abigail Klippel entitled “Organizational Change in the Nonprofit Context: A Scoping Review of the Literature” as an Editors’ Choice. The article will be freely accessible in the October issue and is part of the Editors’ Choice Collection.

In their meta-study, Walk, Cart-Turner, Peterson, and Klippel provide an overview of the state of research on organizational change in the nonprofit context. The focus is on studies published in leading peer-reviewed journals in nonprofit and civil society research. A total of 111 articles published between 1973 and 2019 were analyzed. The findings offer a comprehensive overview of how organizations respond to or prepare for changes in their environment, either incrementally or comprehensively. Results show that research has so far concentrated mainly on nonprofit organizations in the field of social services, with a strong emphasis on large-scale, comprehensive change processes. Based on the identified research gaps, the study discusses implications for both future research and practice.
