For Practitioners: Two Freiburg Research Papers Featured in the ERNOP Research Notes

In the current issue of the ERNOP Research Notes (Issue XII, September 2025), two contributions from researchers at the University of Freiburg are presented in a practice-oriented format.
The ERNOP Research Notes for Philanthropy Practitioners are easy-to-read, nicely edited, and visualized two-page summaries of academic articles from ERNOP members focusing on implications for practice.
The paper “The Political Embeddedness of Voluntary Action: The Case of Local Philanthropic COVID-19 Relief Funds” by Laurie E. Paarlberg, Jin Ai, Megan LePere-Schloop, and Marlene Walk examines how political institutions influence local voluntary engagement, using community-managed COVID-19 relief funds as a case example.
Also originating from Freiburg is the contribution “Designing Better Volunteering Appeals: What Works and for Whom” by Eva Maria Jedicke, Adnan Zogaj, Dieter K. Tscheulin, and Jörg Lindenmeier. This study provides evidence-based recommendations on how nonprofit organizations can effectively design their volunteering appeals – tailored to specific target groups, messages, and communication formats.
The ERNOP Research Notes are published by the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP) and make current research findings in philanthropy accessible for practitioners.
