Marcel Oster, M.Sc.

Marcel Oster is a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Chair of Public and Nonprofit Management in the Faculty of Economics and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Freiburg.

He completed his Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on international trade at the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg. He completed his Master’s degree in business administration with a focus on public and nonprofit management at the University of Freiburg.

In his dissertation, Marcel deals with the management of nonprofit organizations, especially foundations. His research focuses on the engagement and management of volunteers. In his research, he combines quantitative and qualitative methods.

Current research project:

As part of his current research project, he is investigating the influence of volunteer management communication using the example of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), in which several hundred volunteers were involved in Switzerland in 2025. The focus is particularly on the effects on the satisfaction and commitment of event volunteers.
