Have a Say – Get Involved – Network

Help shape the University and civil society! Learn about the diverse opportunities to get involved at and outside of the University: Student representative bodies, community partners in the region, initiatives, and groups invite you to get involved. The University of Freiburg’s Service Learning offerings enable you to combine your involvement with your studies and to network.

Student Council (StuRa)

The Student Council is the representative body of University of Freiburg students and enrolled doctoral candidates. It represents them and their political, social, and cultural interests.

Departmental Student Committees

In the independent student government, the independent departmental student committees are represented in the Departmental Student Committee Conference (FSK) – which meets once a week during the semester.

Four students sit together at a table and talk.

Referate

The departments (Referate) work on specific topics. They serve to represent the concrete interests of the student body and organise, for example, lectures or campaigns to educate students. The meetings of the departments are generally open, so that everyone can get involved in the work of the student council at any time.

Service Learning

Choose an activity that means something to you and benefits society. Both the interdisciplinary Service Learning module and the subject-specific programme give you the opportunity to grapple with issues currently facing our civil society in a practical capacity. You can combine your involvement at the University or at community partners in the region with your course of study and earn ECTS credits if desired. You network with other students and volunteers, exchange ideas on strategies for addressing real needs, and contribute specialist knowledge. You’re creative together and gain valuable insight into ideas for shaping civil society and taking on societal responsibility.
