Klassische Philologie (Classical Philology)

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – 2 field degree program - Major Field

The Bachelor’s programme in Classical Philology focuses on the languages, literatures and cultures of the Greco-Roman world, as well as their influence up to the present day. The programme offers intensive study of Greek and Latin languages and Greco-Roman literature, with emphasis on textual tradition, reception history, post-classical Latin culture, literary theory, and Digital Humanities. It also includes modules on archaeology, ancient history, and an excursion to Rome, Greece, or another classical site. Graduates can pursue numerous careers in literature and cultural studies, as well as further Master’s degree programmes, thanks to the skills they have acquired.

Entrance examination
1. the Latinum or equivalent knowledge of Latin and 2. performance in at least one other classical or modern foreign language assessed with the grade "satisfactory" in at least one school semester, which is shown in the University entrance qualification

Non-EU citizens (who do not hold a German Abitur) are not eligible to take part in this selection process. Places are allocated within a quota of 8% of the total number of places, based on the average mark achieved in the university entrance qualification. However, the criteria for the entrance examination must be met.
