Biologie (Biology)

Polyvalent dual major bachelor's degree programme - Major field (teacher education track)

The biology degree programme for teacher training offers a solid grounding in biology and chemistry, covering a wide range of topics and providing opportunities for individual specialization. Biologists analyse and investigate the structures and processes found in humans, animals, plants and microorganisms. They study their habitats, development and interactions with one another and with their respective environments. Key competencies acquired include a broad knowledge of biology, methods for laboratory and fieldwork, as well as the ability to conduct and evaluate experiments for a career as a teacher. The programme stands out in its respectful interaction between students and lecturers, as well as a diverse range of online self-study resources designed to help students prepare for their studies and support their learning throughout their degree. Students can expect a high proportion of practical work, superb technical facilities in the lecture theatres, and excellent training in both subject-specific knowledge and teaching methodology to prepare them for a career in education. Students gain access to excellent research within the faculty’s research groups and at centers of excellence, collaborative research projects and research institutions both within and outside the university. Graduates of the dual-major Biology programme are well-suited to a teaching career in secondary schools; depending on their second subject, they are also suited to a wide range of roles and fields of work requiring an interdisciplinary skill set, for example in laboratories, higher education institutions, businesses, teaching, nature conservation and the communications sector.
