EPICUR Seed Funding 2025 – Submit your project ideas now
Freiburg, 22.05.2025
In order to further expand cooperation and future joint research and teaching within the EPICUR alliance, researchers from all partner universities are invited to submit innovative concepts for interdisciplinary research projects by 4 September 2025. Those interested can obtain preliminary information at an online session on 23 May 2025.

As part of the EPICUR Seed Funding Scheme 2025, the EPICUR University Alliance is initially funding one-year projects with up to €150,000. Projects can be submitted jointly by researchers from at least three EPICUR partner institutions in three different countries. During the funding phase, each consortium commits to offering at least six hours of joint teaching. An extension of the funding period by twelve months is possible upon a submitted reasonable request. Researchers from all disciplines are eligible to apply – projects from the four EPICUR focus areas Global Health, European Values, Sustainable Transformation and Future Intelligence are particularly welcome. Researchers in the early stages of their careers are expressly encouraged to apply.
Financing
For the first time in this round of the EPICUR Seed Funding Scheme, all partner universities are contributing their own funds to a joint virtual alliance pot:
- This means that a maximum grant of €150,000 is available for each project.
- The University of Freiburg is contributing €50,000 to the Alliance’s total budget.
- Eligible costs include personnel costs, research trips, pilot studies and workshops, as well as the purchase of equipment.
Start-up financing lays foundation for successful follow-up applications
The start-up funding forms the basis for follow-up applications and is intended to specifically involve researchers in the early stages of their careers. Thanks to the mandatory teaching component, the programme also anchors the principle of research-based teaching even more firmly in Freiburg’s range of courses.
