The ERC funds ground-breaking research projects of outstanding scientists with highly endowed grants. ERC Starting Grants are awarded to young innovative researchers who want to establish their own research group. ERC Consolidator Grants are awarded to promising scientists at the beginning of an independent career whose research group is in the consolidation phase. The Advanced Grants are aimed at established, active researchers from all disciplines with an outstanding scientific track record. The complementary Proof of Concept Grant is awarded to researchers who already hold an ERC grant and wish to pre-commercialize a research result from their ongoing or already completed project. The ERC Synergy Grants support teams of two to four promising scientists.
