Sinology at the University of Freiburg offers a comprehensive introduction to China’s past and present. Students acquire advanced proficiency in the Chinese language while developing a deep understanding of China’s history, political system, and social dynamics. Sinology emphasises contemporary developments and practical relevance. The BA programme provides training in Chinese and analytical skills for studying modern China. Graduates reach B2 language proficiency and gain in-depth knowledge of contemporary Chinese developments. The programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required for professional work in China-related fields. Graduates pursue careers across a wide range of sectors, including the private sector, public administration, international and non-governmental organisations, foundations, media, museums, cultural exchange institutions, and translation services.
