Wirtschaftswissenschaft (Economic Science)

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Master of Education in Economics forms the second phase of teacher education for Gymnasiallehramt (secondary school teaching). It prepares students to teach “Economics, Career and Study Orientation” (Wirtschaft, Berufs- und Studienorientierung – WBS) and builds on the polyvalent Bachelor’s programme. The programme combines disciplinary studies, subject didactics, and educational sciences into a coherent teacher education framework. Students critically examine economic models and theories and learn to address their controversial aspects in teaching. It emphasises the link between analysis, pedagogy, and practical school application. The Master’s degree qualifies graduates for the practical training phase of teacher education at Gymnasium (secondary schools in Germany). Graduates are prepared to explain economic interrelations clearly and to critically discuss economic issues in the classroom. It does not qualify them to teach at vocational schools.
