Damaged and lost cards – Requesting a replacement card
Depending on the nature of the damage and the age of the card, you may have to pay a fee of €10 to have a damaged card replaced. In the case of damage caused by regular wear and tear, you will be issued a replacement card free of charge. Please contact the UniCard Office before paying the fee if you are not sure whether you need to pay it.
Please note that you cannot be using a day locker at the University Library while your new card is being made.
To produce a replacement card, the UniCard Office requires the defective UniCard and the payment slip.

- Production
The UniCard Office produces your new card within just a few minutes during office hours upon presentation of the defective card and proof of payment (please be sure to send this by email to: unicard@uni-freiburg.de).
As an alternative, you can also send your defective card to the UniCard Office by post (please send proof of payment to unicard@uni-freiburg.de) and pick up your new UniCard or have it sent to you.
- Credit and access authorizations
If the functioning old UniCard is available when we produce the new card, we transfer the credit and access authorizations to the new UniCard. If the old card is no longer functional, we issue a document with which you can have the credit transferred by the SWFR (service point).
When we issue your new UniCard, all access authorizations for buildings are transferred to the new card automatically within 72 hours. Your PIN for checking out media at the University Library remains the same. The only thing that changes is your University Library account number.
If you have lost your card, we can issue you a new one for a fee of €10. You can make the payment either by bank transfer or by girocard at the UniCard Office. If you pay by bank transfer, it is important to send us proof of payment (screenshot of the transfer) by email, as we otherwise cannot produce the card. If you pay at the UniCard Office, we can only accept girocard or debit cards. Credit cards and cash are not accepted. If you pay the fee at the UniCard office, we issue the new card and you can take it with you directly. We can also send you the UniCard by post.
To produce a replacement card, the UniCard office requires proof of payment of the fees, currently amounting to €10.
Important! Please send the payment receipt as an e-mail attachment in PDF or JPG format directly to the UniCard office.

You can also come directly to the office hours, in which case you will receive the new UniCard within a few minutes. However, you must then also send us proof of payment by e-mail to: unicard@uni-freiburg.de.
We will also be happy to send you the UniCard by post.
To have your UniCard blocked (ATTENTION: not for autoload!), please provide your first and last name and your student ID number to the UniCard Office.
Unblocking:
If your old UniCard turns up again, you can have it unblocked at the UniCard Office if you have not yet been issued a new card.
We receive all found cards from the Rempartstraße cafeteria and the University Library each Monday and then notify all students directly that they can pick up their card. If you have not received an email from us, then your card has unfortunately not turned up yet.

Access to buildings and rooms
Your UniCard is automatically assigned a specific access profile. This authorizes you to access certain buildings and rooms at the University, depending on which degree programme you are enrolled in. For additional access authorizations, please contact the relevant department directly.
If you have questions about access authorizations, please contact the institution from which you have received or wish to receive access rights (your own degree programme, faculty, institute, etc.).
Please provide your LAST NAME, FIRST NAME, UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ACCOUNT NUMBER of your card (number is at very top of card), and your STUDENT ID NUMBER.
When we issue your new UniCard, all authorizations for access to rooms and buildings are transferred to the new card automatically within 72 hours. Your PIN for checking out media at the University Library remains the same. The only thing that changes is your University Library account number.
University Library
Change of University Library account number
For technical reasons, your University Library account number has to be changed when we make you a new UniCard. The new account number is passed on to the University Library automatically, and any media you have checked out are transferred to the new account. Your online password and your PIN number remain the same.
Library card
Students use the UniCard as their library card.
Credit
Adding credit
You can load credit onto the card at various locations (e.g., Studierendenwerk service points, cafeterias, cafes). It is not possible to load credit onto the card at the UniCard Office on Sedanstr. 6.
The Studierendenwerk Freiburg (SWFR) is responsible for adding credit to and removing credit from the UniCard, as well as for blocking the card.
Remaining credit
You may request to have the remaining credit on your UniCard paid out to you at the service points in the cafeterias.
If your UniCard is no longer readable there, you may request a statement of credit remaining on your card along with a new UniCard at the UniCard Office during office hours. By presenting this statement at one of the service points, you can have the remaining credit paid out to you or loaded onto your new UniCard. It is not possible to have the credit transferred directly to your new card at the UniCard Office.
Blocking of card due to outstanding payments
Please contact the employees of the Studierendenwerk (SWFR) at the service points in the cafeterias or cafes if your card has been blocked.
Problems with autoload / payment process at cafeteria / washing machines
The SWFR is responsible for these functions. You can reach them via the Card Service or in person at the service points in the cafeterias.
If you are having problems with your card, you need to provide the UID/card number (also called mifare number) you received with the first letter about the UniCard in your communication with the SWFR. The SWFR needs this number to identify the card as belonging to you in their system. With this number and your PIN, you can also log into the Card Service, e.g., to block autoload.
This SWFR page also includes more information on card numbers, PINs, and autoload.
