Clearer responsibilities, faster processing, specialised advice and information, and an overall better service – the restructuring offers students various advantages.
The Student Service Center (SCS) at the University of Freiburg is undergoing a fundamental restructuring: whereas the SCS was previously organised according to the educational background of the target groups (German and foreign nationals with German qualifications on the one hand, and prospective international students on the other), in the future the areas of responsibility will be grouped according to subject.
“The restructuring of the SCS will not only make the responsibilities for students who turn to the SCS for help more understandable,” says Kari Reulecke, head of the SCS. “The advice and services offered will also be more seamless because we will be better able to absorb staff shortages. The clearly defined areas of responsibility will also lead to better quality advice and services.”
The three departments in the SCS will become four, and they will be responsible for the information, counselling, admission and administration of students, regardless of their educational background.
The Student Service Center (SCS-StudInfo) will in future include the hotline, the info point and the office for student ID cards (UniCard). It is the first point of contact for those seeking guidance and for issuing the UniCard to students. Those seeking guidance can turn to the info point on the ground floor directly after the entrance at Sedanstr. 6 with their questions in person.
The Central Academic Advising Office (SCS-ZSB) advises all students and prospective students confidentially and impartially.
The Application and Admissions section (SCS-BuZ) plans and processes the application and admissions procedures for all students.
The Registration Office (SCS-StudBüro) manages the affairs of all students and doctoral candidates (enrolment, leave of absence, exmatriculation, etc.). It also administers the topics of guest student studies, the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, tuition fees and semester contributions.
The ‘Student Secretariat’ and ‘International Admissions and Services’ will no longer be run under these names.
