Special Issue project in “Environment and Planning E”

Successful FRIAS-Workshop

The Theme Issue proposal “MOBILISING AND CONTESTING LAW IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIOENVIRONMENTAL CONFLICTS” has been accepted by the editorial board of the journal “Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space”. This Theme Issue will be edited by Dr. Cristina Espinosa, Chair of Sustainability Governance, University of Freiburg, Germany; LL.M. María Ximena González-Serrano, Social Sciences Department, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain; Dr. Thalia Viveros Uehara, Department of Public Law and Governance, Tilburg University, Netherlands, and Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany; and M.Sc. Zabrina Welter, Chair of Sustainability Governance, University of Freiburg, Germany.

The Theme Issue offers context-specific empirical insights, while also contributing to theory building in interdisciplinary nature-society scholarship on complex, power-laden relations between law and human-environmental interactions. It encompasses 9 original articles which will soon go under a double-blinded peer review process.

This interdisciplinary publication project is the result of the Author’s and Networking Workshop entitled “THE POLITICS OF LEGAL PROCESSES TO REDRESS ENVIRONMENTAL INJUSTICES FROM CONTESTED NATURAL RESOURCE GOVERNANCE”, which took place between 15 to 17 November 2023, at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies – FRIAS, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
