Childcare (from 1 year until school)
There are several childcare options in Freiburg for children from the age of one until they start school. Which care is suitable for the child depends on various factors. Under the “More Information” button, we have gathered together basic information and forms of childcare.
School
Elementary School (1st-4th grade)

FamilienCard
The Freiburg FamilienCard is an offering of the city of Freiburg and contains discounts for city facilities, cultural offerings and private services. The yearly fee for the FamilienCard is 30 €. Employees under a certain level of income, as well as students who receive BAföG benefits, can receive the card free of charge.
University members receive the FamilienCard in the Family Service’s secretariat.
Counseling
The Family Service advises international researchers who join the University of Freiburg on the university’s childcare facilities and helps them find a place in a daycare center. Furthermore, the Family Service provides information about the German school system and refers international academics to the appropriate contacts and schools.
