Rooms and Garden

The Uni-Kita Blütengarten is located in a building of the Faculty of Biology. It offers generous and nicely furnished rooms. There is a large group room, a sleeping room, an all-purpose room and a bath room with a changing table and a small children’s toilet. The daycare centre also has an office, a personnel room and a kitchen.

In the group room, there is a built-in second level, offering the children various stimuli for movement and different haptic, optical and spatial impressions. The group room and sleeping room offer opportunities for quiet time, such as cuddling corners, dens and mattresses. The walls have been painted with child-appropriate and calming colours.

The closely located Botanical Gardens are available to the children for playing and discovering. In addition, we have a playground especially set up for the daycare centre, containing small hills, a slide, a bird’s nest swing, a sandbox, climbing opportunities and flower beds for planting.

Spot Assignment

In order to get a spot at the Uni-Kita Blütengarten, one of the child’s parents must be active as a scientist (or in a non-scientific area with comparable work conditions) at the Faculty of Biology. The partner must also be employed or in training, and the family has to be in need of full-day care.

Admission Conditions

Parents who do not meet these requirements may enter the waiting list, and will be considered with a reduced priority.

Registration

To register your child in the Uni-Kita Blütengarten, please complete the following two steps:

1. In order to enroll your child in any Kita in Freiburg you need to follow the central registration procedure by the city of Freiburg. This applies also to the Kitas of the university. The following website by the Office for children, youth and families of the Freiburg city administration will guide you through the registration procedure. A video explains how to register for a childcare place in Freiburg and how you can proceed in your search for a childcare place. The video is in German, but you can select subtitles in different languages, such as English or Spanish. On this website, you can access the registration form (German only) on which you can specify up to three daycare centers. Please enter the Uni-Kita Blütengarten as one of your desired daycare centers. By sending the form, the director of the Uni-Kita Blütengarten will be notified automatically.

The websites of the city of Freiburg as well as the form for the central registration are in German only. If this is inconvenient for you, we offer you the registration form in English.

2. In addition to registering your child through the city’s central registration system, your employment status with the Universität Freiburg is needed in order to allocate the daycare spots. As soon as the director of the Uni-Kita Blütengarten receives the registration notification by the city, she will send you an email with the link to a form on your employment relationship with the Universität Freiburg.

Please note that we can only consider enrollment applications for which you completed the city registration and sent the form on your employment status.

Most of the free spots are allocated at the beginning of a new kindergarten year in September. In order to get a spot at this point, you need to be registered in the central registration system of the city of Freiburg by mid-February of the same year. If you need to start childcare at a time other than September, you also have to register with the central system and you should do so as soon as possible. In this case please be prepared for a longer waiting period, since there are only a few spots left to be awarded after September.
