December 2025: School visit
A fun event to finish the year was a visit by a local high-school physics course. After some introductory remarks and a visit of the impressive PANCAKE facility, the highlight was a DIY cloud chamber before finishing off with nitrogen ice cream and hot punsch.
December 2025: DEEP kickoff meeting
Within two months of the confirmation of our funding, we hosted the kick-off meeting for the DEEP consortium. With guests from the length of Germany, we had an intense two half-days of discussions about our starting point and initial work plan.
December 2025: Weihnachtsfeier
It was time to look back on and celebrate an eventful year at our Christmas Party. We had a great evening on top of the physics high rise. Special thanks go to our entertainment team for fun games throughout the evening.
November 2025: Funding confirmed: ErUM-Pro
We received funding to join the LHCb-Germany consortium. This will support our work on developments for the LHCb Upgrade II and on current operations of the SciFi tracker. The funding complements our ongoing activities on analyses and work in the Real-Time Analysis project.
November 2025: Shift leader handover
How likely is it to have a handover between shift leaders from the same institute?
October 2025: Funding confirmed: ErUM-Data
We received funding to start the DEEP consortium alongside colleagues at KIT, Bonn, TU Hamburg, DESY, and at our industry partners SiMA.ai and SICK AG. Together, we'll work over the coming three years on making machine learning applications more usable on different FPGA platforms.
September 2025: LHCb-Germany meeting
We had the great pleasure of hosting our LHCb-Germany colleagues for our annual meeting. Over a two-day workshop we saw many presentations from all groups and had plenty of time to discuss and get to know each other better.
July 2025: Betriebsausflug
Our first group excursion led us up Roßkopf, where we got to admire the view of northern Freiburg and beyond and could check on the progress of the new wind turbines. After a stop for refreshments at St. Barbara, we finished the day in a beer garden on Schlossberg.
June 2025: Funding confirmed: START for Ksenia
One of our postdocs, Ksenia Solivieva, received a START grant to explore solutions with new materials to serve a lightweight supports and precise positioning of tracking detectors.
