It is possible to pursue a doctoral degree at all eleven faculties of the University of Freiburg. In addition to the „classical“ form of individual doctoral studies, the university offers a large selection of structured doctoral programmes in various areas. Here you may find an overview of all doctoral subjects, the doctoral degree regulations as well as faculty contacts.
The interests of all doctoral candidates are represented by the doctoral candidate councils of the faculties as well as three representatives in the university senate. Respective contact persons can be found on the homepage of the joint working committee.
In the following, we will inform you about the steps required for new doctoral candidates, from the supervision confirmation to enrolment at the university as well as the offers and opportunities available to all doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg.
The Graduate Centre (GraCe) regularly organises the welcome event Doc On! for all new doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg. We would like to support you right from the start in establishing contacts with other doctoral candidates and building up your research network. Doctoral candidates who have an employment contract at the University of Freiburg are cordially invited to attend the Introductory Event for New Employees. Employees can also find further services on the University’s intranet page New to the University.
The Welcome Service of the International Office supports international doctoral candidates with questions on non-academic matters (e.g. visa, accommodation or registration with the city).
