Über uns

Die Weber-Gruppe erforscht die meist kurzlebigen Radikale mit stationären und zeitauflösenden Methoden der magnetischen Resonanzspektroskopie. Radikale sind Moleküle mit ungepaarten Elektronenspins, die sowohl in der belebten wie unbelebten Materie eine wichtige Rolle spielen. Untersucht werden dabei Ladungs- und Energietransfer-Prozesse, die in Enzymreaktionen, der Photorezeption und auch im Hinblick auf die Photovoltaikforschung von essentieller Bedeutung sind.
Die Projekte des AK Weber fügen sich unmittelbar in die Forschungsschwerpunkte Enzyme und Wirkstoffe sowie Energie und Materialien der Fakultät für Chemie und Pharmazie ein.

Unsere Forschung beschäftigt sich mit der Untersuchung kurzlebiger paramagnetischer Zustände (Radikale, Triplettzustände, Radikalpaare) in biologischen Systemen und Funktionsmaterialien.
Methoden und Verfahren

NMR und EPR
Die Kernspinresonanz (NMR, engl.: nuclear magnetic resonance) und die Elektronenspinresonanz (EPR, engl.: electron paramagnetic resonance) gehören zu den Methoden der magnetischen Resonanz und ermöglichen die Untersuchung magnetischer Eigenschaften und dynamischer Prozesse auf molekularer Ebene.
Beide Methoden beruhen auf der Ausrichtung magnetischer Dipolmomente von Elektronen- bzw. Kernspins in einem äußeren Magnetfeld. Durch die Einstrahlung elektromagnetischer Strahlung geeigneter Frequenz können Übergänge zwischen den verschiedenen Spinzuständen angeregt werden. Während bei der EPR Mikrowellenstrahlung, kommt bei der NMR Radiofrequenzstrahlung zum Einsatz.
In unserer Forschung setzen wir verschiedene EPR-Verfahren ein, darunter kontinuierliche (cw) und gepulste EPR, zeitaufgelöste Messungen sowie verschiedene Doppelresonanzmethoden. Diese Methoden ermöglichen es uns, elektronische Strukturen, Wechselwirkungen und Dynamiken paramagnetischer Systeme zu charakterisieren und insbesondere kurzlebige Zwischenzustände und Reaktionsprozesse zu untersuchen.
Im Bereich der NMR nutzen wir darüber hinaus das photo-CIDNP-Verfahren (photochemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization). Durch lichtinduzierte Prozesse kann dabei eine starke Verstärkung der NMR-Signale erreicht werden. Dies eröffnet neue Möglichkeiten, photochemische und photophysikalische Prozesse sowie die damit verbundenen molekularen Mechanismen mit hoher Empfindlichkeit zu untersuchen.
TA – Transiente Absorptionsspektroskopie (Blitzlichtphotolyse)
Die transiente Absorptionsspektroskopie (TA) ermöglicht die Untersuchung kurzlebiger, metastabiler Zustände und der Dynamik photochemischer Prozesse. Durch einen kurzen Lichtpuls hoher Intensität werden angeregte Zustände und kurzlebige Intermediate erzeugt, deren zeitabhängige Absorptionsänderungen spektroskopisch verfolgt werden. So lassen sich unter anderem Reaktionsmechanismen, Zwischenzustände und Geschwindigkeitskonstanten bestimmen.
Für die Probenanregung verwenden wir gepulste Laser. Die zeitaufgelöste Detektion erfolgt über einen Photomultiplier und ein schnelles Digitaloszilloskop und ermöglicht Zeitauflösungen im niedrigen Nanosekundenbereich.
Unser TA-Spektrometer LP 920 von Edinburgh Instruments ist mit einem Surelite-Lasersystem zur Probenanregung ausgestattet.
