Faculty
The Faculty of Medicine Freiburg brings together expertise in research and teaching through its various institutes and facilities. It fulfils its responsibilities in close cooperation with the Medical Center – University of Freiburg, as well as with other faculties, and non-university research institutions.
Freiburg is a great place to live: It is said that there are two types of people in Germany: those who live in Freiburg and those who would like to live in Freiburg.T his city of 230,000 inhabitants in south-western Germany offers excellent conditions for studying and research, combined with a remarkably high quality of life. Freiburg is the most sunny city in Germany, known for the Black Forest and its surrounding vineyards, the medieval cathedral, and the “Bächle” in the old town. At the same time, the “Green City” is a hallmark of sustainable lifestyles and high environmental standards. As a matter of course, students and professors commute to university by bike, and the local soccer club operates a climate-neutral stadium.
Freiburg has an international character: The University of Freiburg, as well as the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes, attract students and researchers from all over the world. They shape the international character of the city in lecture halls, laboratories, and cafeterias as well as in the city’s colourful pub and cultural scene. Additionally, Freiburg’s location at the tri-border area of Germany, France and Switzerland promotes cross-border exchange. The University of Freiburg is a member of several strong European alliances and projects:
The regional cross-border campus is a tri-national alliance between the Universities of Freiburg, Basel, Haute-Alsace, Strasbourg, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
The European network of science regions EPICUR comprises eight partner institutions from the European Union. These partners have committed themselves to developing innovative learning and teaching opportunities for their students and staff and to jointly addressing global issues of social relevance through collaborative, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research programmes.
