Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine in Freiburg stands for innovation, practical relevance and excellent teaching.

The medical education includes:

• a six-year programme of study in medicine at a university or an equivalent higher education institution. The final year of study, subject to § 3 paragraph 3 sentence 2, consists of a continuous practical training (Practical Year) of 48 weeks;
• training in First Aid;
• a three-month nursing service;
• a four-month clinical traineeship (Famulatur); and
• the Medical Examination, which must be taken in three parts.

The standard period of study in accordance with § 10 para. 2 of the Higher Education Framework Act is six years and three months, including the examination time for the Third Part of the Medical Examination pursuant to § 16 para. 1 sentence 2.

The medical programme in Freiburg is continuously being enhanced, with a focus on doctor-patient communication, interprofessionalism, and practical skills.
