The second study section in Freiburg is divided into an introductory year with longitudinal teaching and two clinical years, which primarily consist of block courses. The program schedule indicates the order of the subjects. Further down you can find examples of timetables (fpr the introductory year (1st clinical year)) and weekly schedules (for the 2nd and 3rd clinical years).
The clinical traineeship lasts 4 months (120 days) and is a requirement to participate in the Second Part of the Medical Examination. According to § 7 paragraph 3 nos. 1 – 4 of the Medical Licensing Regulations (ÄApprO), the clinical traineeship is to be completed as follows:
- For one month in an outpatient care facility led by a physician, or a suitable medical practice,
- for one month in a hospital or in an inpatient rehabilitation facility,
- for one month in a primary care facility, and
- for one month in one of the facilities mentioned in numbers 1 to 3, or another suitable facility, including public health services, where medical activities are conducted.
(Primary care providers include: general practitioners, paediatricians, internists without specialisation)
To participate in the Second Part of the Medical Examination a total of 120 calendar days must be documented, counting all days, including weekends and public holidays. Interruptions (e.g., due to illness) must be recorded separately and are not included in the 120 calender days.
The traineeship can be divided into a maximum of 5 sections, with a minimum duration of 14 calendar days per section.
It is important that the traineeship is certified on the “Certificate of Activity as a Trainee”. This document can be found online at the State Examination Office or with the Dean’s Office link. The certificate has to be signed by the supervising physician and must also be stamped with the clinic ore practice stamp. No corrections (e.g., white-out) are permitted on this document. The exhibition date must be after the end of the training period or at the last official day.
The clinical traineeship must be completed during lecture-free periods, which means during the break between two semesters or a leave of absence semester. If the clinical traineeship ist completed during the semester, the Dean’s Office must confirm with an official seal that no regular courses requiring the student’s attendance were held during the traineeship period, or that there was no other opportunity due to university training plans.
(Please visit Ms. Binninger during offical office hours. Please bring the completetd certificate form with you)
According to § 7 ÄApprO, clinical traineeships must be completed during the lecture-free period. Scheduled courses in the study plan cannot be cancelled in favour of clinical traineeships.
