in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Regional Plastic Surgery from October, 1st 2025.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in research and teaching. She/he will be the medical director of the Department at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg.
The future post holder is expected to demonstrate outstanding clinical and scientific achievements at an international level, have leadership experience as well as management skills and be able to represent the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The candidate should have a focus on head and neck tumour and craniofacial surgery and should be familiar with innovative, interdisciplinary and oncological therapies including plastic-functional rehabilitation. Academic teaching is to be subject-specific in the dentistry and medicine degree programmes.
Interdisciplinary collaborations, active participation in research focus areas of the Faculty of Medicine, in particular in the fields of oncology, immunology and infectiology, and participation in research alliances of the University of Freiburg are expected.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree in medicine and dentistry, a very good dissertation, an excellent publication record and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. at the Institute of Transfusional Medicine and Genetherapy (director: Prof. Dr. Toni Cathomen) at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg to be filled by 1 st September 2025.
The future holder of this position will represent the subject of ‘Personalized Immune Cell Therapy in research and teaching and will be entrusted with the establishment of a Personalized Immune Cell Therapy working group. It is planned to assign a division management to the professorship. In addition, she*he will be responsible for transfusion medicine patient care.
The future holder of this position holds experience in the clinical development, testing or application of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). A subject-relevant research focus with a corresponding excellent track record (publications, acquisition of third-party funding) as well as management experience are required.
The professorship should advance immune cell therapy through participation in renowned oncological research networks (e.g. DKTK, German Cancer Aid) and through close cooperation with the existing Collaborative Research Centers 1160 (IMPATH), 1479 (OncoEscape) and 1597 (Small Data) in order to create the basis for successful implementation in clinical trials.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree in medicine, a very good dissertation and an excellent publication record and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in transfusion medicine or a related disciplines (with the willingness to acquire a specialist qualification in transfusion medicine). The future holder of this position will represent the field of Precision neuroimmunology in research and teaching.
The professorship is embedded in the scientific-clinical overall concept of the Clinic for Neurology and Neurophysiology and the Department of the Neurocenter, focusing on biosignatures for more precise sub- and endophenotyping of neuroimmunological diseases. The goal is to improve individual prognoses and therapy decisions through multimodal data (imaging, fluid biopsy) and AI-supported analyses (machine learning, digital twins). Tasks include the development and validation of blood and cerebrospinal fluid biosignatures, participation in multicenter cohorts, teaching in medical education, and patient care with a focus on new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

Junior Professorship for Epigenetic Pharmacology
at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, Department Pharmacology II, to be filled as soon as possible.
This is a grade W1-professorship to which performance payments can be offered. This professorship is suitable for highly qualified early career researchers at an early stage in their careers. Conditions governing the appointment in accordance with section 51 (2) LHG apply.
It is expected that the applicant has a high level of scientific qualification in the field of Epigenetics, such as during an excellent postgraduation thesis work. The Junior-Professorship is supposed to complement and strengthen the focus areas of the Institute by research on the epigenetic regulation of the genome and the pharmacological approaches to impact gene programs, such as for maintaining or altering cellular identities. The applicant should have a proven track record in the field, experience with the acquisition of third-party funding, supervision of co-workers, and academic teaching.

The future holder of this position will represent the field of medical imaging informatics in research and teaching and will lead the focus within the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and the Medical Center- University of Freiburg. Major focus is the development and implementation of advanced post-processing of imaging data i.e. by employing artificial intelligence, optimization of digital workflows, including standardized reporting, as well as integration of non-imaging biomedical information for improved diagnosis. With the professorship the field of translational imaging and data utilization across the entire Medical Center as well as the cross-sectional area of medical data science within the faculty will be advanced. Full Professorship (W3) for Infection Resistance
at the Institute for Infection Prevention and Control at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg at the earliest possible date.
The post holder will represent the subject of infection resistance in research and teaching.
Within the existing supra-regional SFB/TRR 359 PILOT, the professorship will promote profile development through basic research on the development of immunological resistance to pathogens using various models (e.g. cross-class animal models). Preferably, the candidate should have experience with various model organisms, including invertebrates, to study the organ-specific development of myeloid immunity. The professorship is intended to strengthen the research portfolio on the question of how the interaction of the tissue environment and gene regulatory networks structures organ immunity. The focus of the institute is on research into the interplay between the microbiome and host immunity and its role in pathogen transmission and control. Close cooperation with the other immunological Collaborative Research Projects (SFB 1160 IMPATH, SFB/TRR 167 NeuroMac and SFB 1479 ONCOESCAPE) and the Cluster of Excellence Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS) is desired.
The applicant should have an outstanding scientific track record in the development of cellular innate immunity. Successful acquisition of qualified third-party funding under own responsibility is expected.

This Junior Professorship aims to strengthen the (implant-)prosthetic treatment of elderly patients and the implantprosthetic treatment of patients suffering from maxillofacial defects in in patient care, research and education. Holder of position is encouraged to develop and extend interdisciplinary care of elderly patients and patients suffering from maxillofacial defects in cooperation with the Department of Prosthetic Dentistry and the Department of Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery Regional Plastic Surgery.
Research should focus on digital, patient oriented and time-/cost-effecient treatment of the specified cohort of patients. Methodological competence in planning and conducting clinical trials with and for vulnerable populations is desired. Furthermore, knowledge in the field of computer-aided design and -manufacturing, in particular in the field of additive manufacturing, of dental and maxillofacial prostheses, optional including epithetics, is appreciated. Cooperation with the Centre for Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology (ZGGF), the Freiburg Materials Research Center (FMF), the Department of Sustainable Systems Engineering (INATECH) and the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) already exists and are expected to be intensified by this professorship.

in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (Chair: Prof. Dr. Hartmut Bürkle) to be filled as soon as possible. The future professor (f/m/d) will represent gendersensitive perioperative medicine in research and teaching.
The professorship will focus on gender as a factor influencing health and illness in the context of perioperative medicine. Gender includes biological and socio-cultural aspects. Findings on gender research are to be actively integrated into medical teaching, clinical care and the interdisciplinary research priorities of the Faculty of Medicine and the University of Freiburg. The University and the interdisciplinary programme on Gender Studies will be supported through a teaching export (at least 2 SWS).
The professorship has special significance for the field of gendersensitive prevention and care programs in the entire field of perioperative medicine. Senior physician responsibilities in patient care in the Department for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine are possible depending on the profile of the successful candidate.
We expect that you have already acquired scientific visibility in the research field of gender-related medicine.

The incumbent of this position represents the field of Internal Medicine with a focus on Nephrology in both research and teaching and will be entrusted with the leadership of the Department. The department’s main areas of focus include the care of acute and chronic kidney diseases, the performance of renal replacement and extracorporeal procedures, transplant medicine, as well as hereditary kidney and autoimmune diseases. Willingness to collaborate in the interdisciplinary Transplantation and Vasculitis Center as well as the Center for Rare Diseases is expected.
Active participation in the research priorities of the Faculty of Medicine and involvement in Freiburg research networks, including Germany’s Excellence Strategy, are anticipated. The incumbent should possess a distinguished scientific profile demonstrated through outstanding publications and successful acquisition of third-party funding to take an active role in the Comprehensive Research Centre CRC/SFB 1453 (NephroGenetics), and in securing and implementing new nephrological collaborative projects.
Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree in human medicine, an outstanding dissertation, an excellent publication record and a board certification (Facharztanerkennung) in internal medicine and nephrology. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

Pediatric cardiac surgery and cardiac surgery of congenital heart defects are located at the
Campus Freiburg, as the entire pediatric (cardiac) medicine is contextualized there. The entire
spectrum of pediatric cardiac surgical procedures (including new born cardiac surgery and

in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, to be filled as soon as possible.
The future holder of this position will represent the field of Urogynecology in research and teaching.
The Faculty of Medicine is looking for an outstanding personality with a broad surgical and clinical experience in the entire field of gynecology with a specific focus on urogynecology (expertise in all vaginal and minimal-invasive surgical techniques) as well as designated experience in leadership. A certificate by the German Urogynecologic Society (AGUB) level II or III is mandatory.
A close and interdisciplinary cooperation as well as active participation in establishing a certified pelvic floor center and integration in the faculty´s key aspects of research is requested. A special research focus on pregnancy and birth related alterations to the female pelvic floor including strategies to prevent pelvic floor disorders would be helpful.
