The Institute of Physics offers a Doctoral Researcher position (f/m/d) Statistical Physics of Active Responsive Colloids

Beschreibung

A doctoral researcher position is available in the Applied Theoretical Physics group of Prof. Joachim Dzubiella at the Institute of Physics, University of Freiburg (https://www.compmat.uni-freiburg.de/)

The candidate is expected to develop and analyze statistical physics models of dispersions of active colloids and artificial cells, with particular focus on their collective response behavior accessed through reaction-diffusion dynamic density functional theory  (classical DDFT). Applicants should have a master’s degree in theoretical physics or a closely related field and, desirably, experience in the statistical mechanics of interacting many-body systems. Demonstrated knowledge of DDFT and/or reaction-diffusion systems is a plus. Qualified candidates must demonstrate excellent spoken and written English skills, programming and scripting skills, such as Python, C/C++, outstanding commitment, and interest in interdisciplinary and independent scientific work.

We offer a stimulating research project at the interface of statistical physics, soft matter, and adaptive materials, close supervision and integration into an active international research environment, and opportunities for collaboration with experimental groups. The funding is according to the German public service pay scale.

The position has a planned start in May, 2026 and is at first limited to 3 years.

Applications should include a cover letter, CV including references, list of publications, and university certificates (Master, Bachelor),  addressed directly to Prof. Dzubiella in a single pdf file: joachim.dzubiella@physik.uni-freiburg.de For full consideration the applications should be sent by March 15, 2026 but later applications may also be considered until the position is filled.

The selection process will follow the rules of the equal opportunity law AGG (Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz).
