Major Biochemistry & Microbiology

Nahaufnahme von Bakterien unter dem Mikroskop - Mikrobiologie und Gesundheit

The topics of the Major Biochemistry & Microbiology comprise special metabolic properties of microorganisms, the physiology and ecology of prokaryotes, Metabolism in eukaryotic cells, proteostasis and regulation by dynamic protein modifications and interactions.

In Microbiology, research topics comprise the isolation and characterization of bacteria with novel metabolic capacities, the degradation of pollutants/xenobiotics, the biotechnological use of bacterial enzymes as biocatalysts, CO2-fixation, biofilm formation or pathogenicity mechanisms. Biochemistry is concerned with current issues of cellular proteostasis, the regulation of essential cellular metabolic and protein import pathways and the characterization of dynamic protein-protein interactions and functional protein complexes.
