Research and Instruction

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Freiburg invites applications for a Full Professorship (W 3) for Sensor Systems Engineering in the Department of Microsystems Engineering.

Description

It is an endowed professorship in early succession to Prof. Paul, which is funded by Robert Bosch GmbH and Bosch Sensortec GmbH and is supported by the Stifterverband.

The successful candidate establishes a research and teaching program for system architecture and modeling, as well as integration of different (multi-)physical sensor sources into sensor systems with high sensitivity, specificity and resilience. Of particular interest are the codesign of hardware and software, mixed-signal circuit design, software-defined sensors, neural networks for sensor fusion, including the development of design tools, simulation methods and digital twins for the realization of virtual system prototypes. The faculty welcomes experience with microsystems and cross-domain system simulation, as well as experimental technologies, such as neuromorphic chips or information processing via mechanical, magnetic, optical, acoustic or fluidic system-integrated structures. The sensor systems should be characterized by a low energy consumption and combine modern sensor principles with embedded systems, which, for example, enable the integration of motion and environmental sensors in wearables, small electronic devices or energy-autonomous distributed sensor networks for new applications. The willingness to cooperate with working groups of the University of Freiburg, and experience to participate in the acquisition of coordinated research programs (Research Training Groups, Collaborative Research Centers, Clusters of Excellence) and to establish cooperations with external partners is expected.

Prerequisites for the employment of Professors are a university degree, an outstanding dissertation and an excellent publication record. Substantial achievements and experience in academic research and teaching, at the level of a Habilitation according to the German academic system, are expected.

We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
