The Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) BA/BSc is a 4-year, English-taught study program hosted at University College Freiburg (UCF). It combines a shared foundation in the Core, flexibility and breadth in the Electives with academic depth in the Major that you choose after your first year of studies:

The Freiburg LAS Program is rooted in the student-centered Liberal Education tradition that emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual discovery, and personal development. UCF fosters an engaging interdisciplinary learning community with an international orientation including study abroad opportunities. We prepare students to tackle complex challenges and make meaningful contributions in an interconnected world. LAS graduates’ career opportunities and paths reflect the breadth of the Program. 80% of our graduates enter disciplinary or interdisciplinary Master’s programmes, in Germany and abroad. Work fields include international and governmental institutions, the private sector, cultural and social organizations, media, the knowledge-based sector, and much more.

Admission

Language requirements: Englisch B2

First semester: Restricted admission (60 places)
Selection procedure
Knowledge of the English language at least level B2 of the CEFR; result of the University entrance qualification, evaluation of the motivation letter (at least 4.0) and evaluation of an essay (at least 4.0).

Germans and EU citizens: 90% of study spaces are granted in a selection procedure and 10% after a waiting period.
Non-EU citizens (without German school-leaving certificate): do not take part in this selection procedure. Study spaces are granted according to a quota of 20% of the available spaces.

Remark: Please check again at the beginning of the application period to make sure that the admission requirements for this degree program have not changed in the meantime.
