Interdisziplinäre Anthropologie (Interdisciplinary Anthropology)

Master of Arts (M.A.)

The Master's programme in Interdisciplinary Anthropology deals with biological and cognitive dimensions of humans, social practices, cultural phenomena and processes, artefacts and institutions, as well as systems of knowledge about humans. In a world in which human connections to other humans, non-human beings, inanimate nature, and technical artefacts are undergoing profound transformations, it provides a well-founded overview of topics, theories, and methods of anthropological research. With its interdisciplinary focus on the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies, and its links to the life and behavioural sciences and science and technology studies, this master's programme is unique in the German-speaking world. An important component are two research-oriented, practice-oriented study projects, which are completed within the university or in non-university institutions, organisations and companies. Beyond providing an overview and in-depth knowledge in key areas, the programme enables graduates to deal with social change, uncertainty and the complexity of contemporary challenges in a responsible, committed and reflective manner. It qualifies graduates for academic careers as well as for positions of responsibility in non-university institutions, organisations and companies that require them to consider anthropological issues in decision-making processes, to continually acquire new knowledge in a competent and critical manner, to communicate this knowledge, and to translate it across disciplines and cultures.
