Mathematics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

The M.Sc. Mathematics is a consecutive, research-oriented programme that provides in-depth knowledge and skills in self-selected areas of pure or applied mathematics. It is a two-year programme taught in English. Within the programme, you are free to choose lectures, seminars and the topic for your Master's thesis from the areas of specialisation offered: classical areas such as algebra, analysis, geometry or more Freiburg-specific topics from mathematical logic to financial mathematics, as well as areas of application (e.g. medical biometrics). The financial mathematics profile is specifically indicated on the degree certificate. The programme qualifies graduates to start their careers in many areas of business, industry, and research. Many graduates work in data analysis (AI, logistics, statistics), finance (banking, insurance, auditing) or IT (software and hardware development). There are also various smaller fields of employment.
