Kunstgeschichte (Art History)

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – 2 field degree program - Major Field

As an Art History major, you study art from the Middle Ages to the present, focusing on Europe, with contemporary art in a global context. The programme offers hands-on work with original artworks, insight into professional practice, and opportunities to study abroad through international partnerships. The programme covers architecture, sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, new media, and performance art. A flexible curriculum allows early specialisation. The “Art Historical Practice” module introduces careers in museums, heritage, journalism, science communication, and Digital Art History, with excursions each semester. Graduates of the Bachelor’s programme gain knowledge of key artworks and their creators, and can analyse and interpret visual phenomena, including digital and AI-generated images. Career paths include the art market, auction houses, tourism, cultural work, publishing, or further study with a Master’s in Art History.
