Welcome to the new FRIAS website! As part of the university-wide website relaunch, FRIAS has completely redesigned its online presence. The updated website is intended to be clearer, more user-friendly, and includes several new features. Take a look around – we look forward to your feedback.
In August 2024, the University of Freiburg introduced a comprehensive relaunch of its central website, with the modernization of institutional websites being implemented progressively. As part of this, the updated FRIAS website now provides an authentic glimpse into the atmosphere at the institute, showcasing its role as a hub for focused and productive research within a vibrant academic community. The redesign emphasizes user-friendliness and accessibility, offering improved navigation and tailored resources for a variety of visitors.
One of the core objectives of the redesign was to provide a better introduction for new visitors to understand what FRIAS is all about. First-time visitors will find improved resources to understand what FRIAS is all about, including insights into the academic life at FRIAS and a concise, well-structured overview of its history. Through the Become a Fellow page, researchers interested in research stays and programmes can gain an initial overview of the opportunities and benefits offered at FRIAS. Further, the redesigned team pages help all visitors quickly identify the relevant contacts for their inquiries, ensuring efficient communication and support.
The new Funding Finder tool enables prospective Fellows and members of our group formats to easily identify programmes suited to their career stage. This enhancement ensures that FRIAS’ funding opportunities are more visible and accessible than before. Additionally, the Funding section provides clearer information on the objectives, selection criteria, timelines, and benefits of each programme, offering a comprehensive guide to help applicants make informed decisions.

The redesigned FRIAS website improves visibility and connection within its community of researchers. Profiles of approximately 1,000 FRIAS alumni will be organized by cohort year in the Fellow Finder, providing a clear and user-friendly way to explore the institution’s researchers network. Future updates will include additional filtering options, making it easier to navigate. In addition, the new Short News section highlights key accomplishments of current and former Fellows. Updates on awards, new funding, and significant publications ensure that the work and achievements of the FRIAS community are shared and accessible.
The new website places a stronger focus on presenting FRIAS’ research activities. Current Fellows now have a dedicated page and the pages for research groups have been expanded and are regularly updated to reflect ongoing activities. The recently established Freiburg Postdoctoral Academy will be represented with individual pages, providing detailed information on respective members, their projects, and relevant news. The Young Academy for Sustainability Research serves as an example of how this structure is implemented.

The updated Events section offers an overview of impressions from past events and provides access to relevant documentation, ensuring that both the atmosphere and content of FRIAS events are captured and available for future reference. Relevant events are also integrated across various sections of the website to meet the needs of specific target audiences effectively. An event calendar is planned for future implementation.
As part of the ongoing development of our new website, some sections are still under construction. You may encounter links to the old website or features that are not yet fully functional. If you are missing any information or have suggestions, we warmly invite you to share your feedback with us. Please feel free to contact us directly at communications@frias.uni-freiburg.de.
