Advice
Advice process
In the initial consultation, we will discuss your concerns and work with you to develop possible courses of action and support. Based on this, with your involvement we will decide what support you want and we can offer you and what the next steps could be.
You can reach us at: protect@zv.uni-freiburg.de or by telephone +49 761 203-54165.
It is important to us that you feel comfortable in the counselling session, which is why we advise:
Our principles
- Our advice is confidential. For a trusting, open conversation between the counsellor and the person seeking advice, it is essential that the person seeking advice feels able to share all the necessary information as well as their thoughts and feelings without worrying that what they say will reach third parties and have consequences. We will only talk to third parties about your experiences if you release us from our duty of confidentiality.
- You are not obliged to take our advice and can decide for yourself how to proceed. You decide whether you want any intervention and what if so. Even if measures are possible and have been planned, you are under no obligation to implement them.
- Our advice is designed to be accessible. Our office is accessible, but please note we do not have an accessible toilet. If you have special requirements for counselling due to language barriers, sensory impairments or cognitive limitations, please let us know when making an appointment.
- Our advice is discrimination-aware. For us, discrimination awareness means being mindful of the effects of discrimination in the balance of power. We therefore reflect on our own positioning and our privileges in existing power structures and related risks of discrimination in the advice setting.
