Interdisciplinary research
The Faculty of Law engages in interdisciplinary dialogue with the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and technical sciences and, with this in mind, continuously participates in interdisciplinary research networks within the university, regionally, nationally and internationally. For example, the Faculty plays a key role in the ConTrans cluster initiative. It is involved in the Centre for Security and Society (CSS) as an essential pillar of the overall university profile field of civil security research. The basic subjects contribute to the Medieval Centre of the University of Freiburg, legal ethics to the Centre for Integrative Biological Signalling Studies (CIBSS) and the Adaptive Governance of Emerging Technologies network. The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law is a spin-off of the Faculty of Law; the Department of Public Law is currently closely linked to the Faculty.
