Studying at the CUPL

Chinese University for Politics and Law (CUPL) in Peking

The Chinese-German Institute for Comparative Law at the Chinese University for Politics and Law (CUPL) in Beijing is a joint project of the CUPL and seven German co-operating universities: the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg, the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the University of Hamburg, the University of Cologne and the University of Münster. The Institute has existed in this form since 2005 and has been part of the Research Centre for Comparative Law at the CUPL since October 2009. The Institute’s mission is to promote and strengthen contact between Chinese and German legal scholarship, particularly in the areas of legal education, research and the development of a Chinese legal system. The Institute offers German students the opportunity to gain an insight into Chinese law through a half-year or full-year study programme.

Students can attend language courses and take part in courses on Chinese law in English or Chinese. Students from the partner universities are exempt from tuition fees. The DAAD awards partial scholarships for a semester stay (students) or a research stay of up to 12 months (doctoral candidates) to students and doctoral candidates in the field of law who are enrolled at the partner universities.

More information on the exchange programme can be found on the website of the Chair of International Business Law with a focus on East Asia.

Information on scholarship programmes that support this stay abroad can be found here. The application deadlines for the winter semester are 1 April and 15 October for the summer semester.
